1. I adopted a World Vision foster child in Cambodia. She is very cute. I put a picture of her up on my desk bulletin board, to remind myself that the amount of money I send her village every month is equivalent to what I make working for just over an hour. The world is a screwed-up place sometimes.
2. I thought I had invented the term "T-Ho's" for Tim Horton's but the UrbanDictionary says "Sorry, Jocelyn, you're not as clever as you think you are." Slang-coinage heartbreak! This is just like when that other guy invented the telephone at basically exactly the same time as Alexander Graham Bell but didn't patent it quickly enough and was forgotten by the annals of science.

4. Speaking of telephones, I have a home phone now for the first time in several years, and we bought a cordless phone with 3 HANDSETS. 3 handsets, people! To my foster child in Cambodia, this would undoubtedly appear to be an insane level of luxury. However, to us it means we can actually PHONE EACH OTHER FROM DIFFERENT ROOMS IN THE HOUSE.
5. Oh right, also, I'm very enamoured of my new neighbourhood. On Saturday we went exploring a bit and discovered that the Mill Creek Cafe has excellent omelettes and sells bread they bake themselves which I am going to buy some of today, and there is a used bookstore just 'round the corner from my house that had all kinds of interesting things. We met our neighbour on one side and she told us that ours is a "hippie neighbourhood." Bread! Books! Hippies! These are a few of my favourite things. <3 Ritchie
6. When our friend Chris told someone old (his uncle? His grandpa?) who used to be a school teacher/principal we were moving to Ritchie, he (the uncle/grandpa), said that the boys from Ritchie were tough. "They're good boys," he said, "But they're tough." James and I say this to each other on a weekly basis, especially when we see boys wandering around who look like they could be from Ritchie. Also, like the boys from Ritchie, we are good, but tough.

LibraryThing informs me that today I bought my 550th book. Way to go, Moron Jocelyn. That's one more thing to move.

Yesterday I did a Closet Audit (Claudit) and threw away two garbage bags full of clothes, with another two garbage bags for the charity bin. It's pretty crazy. I'm such a resource-waster. No wonder there are no clothes left for any of the other people in the world.

Today I hooked up the water and power for our new house. Still to come: gas! We're going to be able to cook and shower and everything. It's going to be so much better than my current place.*

2 questions

1. I bought new glasses last week, and if I'm not mistaken they told me i was paying extra to have the lenses Scotchguarded. 1a. Did the person who invented this process, or at least this term, become a millionaire? 1b. If we Scotchguarded the whole world, would all spilled liquids hover uncertainly, half an inch above the ground?

2. Who thought of the idea of selling delivered pizzas with dipping sauces? This idea is so great and yet so bad for you. The dips are like little packets of heart attack. But at the same time, I sort of admire that mentality. Like, how do we incorporate more cheeze in pizza? (failed answers: make crust out of cheese, make all other toppings out of cheese, make the box out of cheese so people can eat the box after they've eaten the pizza)

it is a scarf with a hood attached. It wraps around many times. It is made out of fleece and a sweatshirty cotton, so it's actually very warm. I say "almost invented" because i think i saw it on a craft site somewhere, but a really long time ago, and then when I remembered it, it was as if I were actually inventing it. (Although you can get them from urban outfitters so really how original can it be right?)


it has a zippered pocket for my ipod because i need to be able to ffwd songs without removing my mittens.

You can't invent something delicious every day. But I can, because I'm a genius. Therefore, I present the Saturday Afternoon, Hotel Chevalier-inspired, Grilled Cheese Pita Quesadilla:


I am eating is as I type this, and it's delicious. The only oversight in its development process, and it is a very slight oversight, is that I thought I had some sour cream and/or salsa in my fridge, and this turned out to be not the case. Not that it matters. Also, if I were making it again, I would start with a better class of pita. Still, it's good and appropriately comforting. I feel like I have the emotional strength to break up with Natalie Portman.
