expanding my web-empire

A couple weekends ago James and I watched Jurassic Park I and III and it inspired us to launch a new blog: how to build a better cloned-dinosaur theme park. What is sad about this blog is that we did not get the full URL we wanted. What is awesome about it is everything else.

Crazy all the time!

I want to make a meta-blog where I find critical entries on other people's blogs and then find errors in them. This person is really annoyed by people who don't capitalize consistently, so much so that they've made a whole blog about it, but their fanatical attention does not seem to extend to it's vs. its. I guess we have to prioritize--if everything makes us crazy, then we're crazy all the time?

This seems to be a new trend in the blogipelago--blogs focused on making fun of other blogs, or facebook/craigslist entries, or flickr photos, or whatever. And yes, they're often very funny, but sometimes I wonder if anything we're doing is good for humanity.

Really Serendipitous Hobo-Drawing (RSHD)

Internet serendipity, including several of my favourite things: John Hodgman wrote the charming and wholly inaccurate book Areas of My Expertise. And when he recorded the audiobook version of that book's list of 700 hobo names (with musical accompaniment by the ever-fabulous Jonathan Coulton!), BoingBoing suggested that 700 artists should draw those hoboes. The result is The 700 Hoboes Project. Almost 1700 hoboes drawn to date!

Whew, typing all those a hrefs made me tired. Everybody take a five-minute break.

While I was researching this post*, a woman I don't know came to offer me some black licorice, claiming that it is "black licorice Friday." Sometimes it's weird, working here.

The one-blog challenge.

There are lots of subjects that I care about, but I don't really have time to read a lot about them, so I need to find one good blog to tell me everything important on a daily or near-daily basis. I read one blog about money (get rich slowly), one about fashion/celebrities (go fug yourself), one about design and crafts (how about orange), one about efficiency and tech (lifehacker), one about books and reading (50 books), and so on. I'm looking for a really good environment/sustainable living blog. I'm thinking about lighter footstep, and may give it a one-week trial. (Or a one-week FREE TRIAL!) Any other suggestions?

It's nice to meet you. Or as we used to say in Spanish 100, el gusto es mio. I am glad we have grown (bizarrely organically) to be blog-buddies. I like knowing that every obsessive Joss-Whedon-obsessed post I write will find at least one appreciative reader. Thanks for humouring me by dressing like your South Park version. Thanks for the Lost and Harry Potter updates--I just ziplisted the first season of Lost, mainly so I would know what you were talking about (no cable!). Thanks for making me your special case/fellow supervillain (I like this metaphor by the way. Rather than the Riddler, though, if possible I would like to put in a request for Catwoman). Together we shall rule Metaphor Gotham City.
