Morale is the highest it has been all week.

Sometimes, when what you really want is a break, you have to settle for a few minutes alone in your cubicle with a bagel and coffee and some photocopies and a highlighter, looking busy so people will leave you alone. And sometimes, if you're at your second workplace of the day and you're tired and sick, that few minutes will actually feel like a break. Which is the sad part. Except it doesn't feel sad. It feels like a tremendous relief.

I am pretty sure there is a Gordon Lightfoot song about this.

I watched the greatest movie last night. It's called Desk Set. Have you seen it, Internet? Katharine Hepburn is in it, and she plays a librarian, and she is AWESOME. She's smart and sassy! She wears awesome clothes! She knows everything! In other words, she is Who I Want to Be When I Grow Up. At least I am on the right track. I mean, I already have a library degree, and at least a few items of awesome clothes. It's nice when you realize you are becoming the person you want to be.

The only other thing I have to say is: INDIANNNNNNA JONES!

So, this month I am working at the children's library. I realize I have probably never properly cleared up this issue. I got a (permanent) new job which begins in May. This month I am working here, filling up the hours with books about princesses and trucks and dinosaurs. And I am weirdly aware of my status. I know that people come in, and see me sitting at the desk and think: There is The Children's Librarian. She is wearing a cardigan! Just now I saw two little (little-- too little) boys outside waiting on the sidewalk, and I went to see if they needed help because I'm responsible like that, and I identified myself: I am the children's librarian. If you need help, or you need to use my phone, you can come into the library. I am aiming for kindly, but I may be hitting matronly instead. I accept that, though. Both kindly children's librarians and matronly children's librarians are ok. I just don't want to be one of the stern ones.

The happiest pizza ever! Discoveries about superheroes!

I learned yesterday that Batgirl was a librarian--saving Gotham City by night, AND by day. The ALA store has a Batgirl poster which I want to buy for every librarian I know.

Last night I made homemade pizza. I made the dough from scratch using unbleached flour (and some whole wheat flour!) I used organic, free-range, grain-fed turkey sausage as the meat! I put zucchini on it! It was crazy. And actually pretty good, everything considered. I'm eating leftovers RIGHT NOW.

This weekend I will get my paladin to L64. LAUGHING TIME IS OVER. I need to stop my tomfoolery (heh. that's a funny word) and catch up to my guildies, before they decide I'm the weakest link and vote me off the island. I made an Excel spreadsheet calculating how much playing time it will take to get her to L70--around 75 hours, give or take. I figure I can do it in ten weeks, since I have to do other stuff too, like go to work and sleep at night.

I was just SO NERDY right now, and for the previous 25 years.
